the vineyards
Piovą Massaia
The vineyard situated between Piovą Massaia and Cocconato is very old. The exposure is south south-westerly. The average age of the vineyards is 50 to 70 years. This estate once belonged to the Church and was managed by the parish of Piovą. It has always been considered one of the areas best vineyards due to its position and the type of soil. The last parish priest, an enthusiastic winegrower, worked very hard on the management of this land.
The soil has a clayey-limy composition with a prevalence of lime. The colour is white, with greyish veins. There is also a smaller sandy component. This land is traditionally suited to the production of fine wines for ageing.
The 2.5 hectare plot is cultivated with Barbera, apart from about twenty rows of Cortese.
